In honor of this occasion Cameras on the Radio will look at some of her most memorable roles over the years:

Lynda Dumar in Melvin and Howard on which Steenburgen received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Karen Buckman in Ron Howard’s dysfunctional family comedy Parenthood.

The vivacious Clara Clayton Doc Brown’s Love interest in the “wild west” third film in the Back to the Future trilogy.

Betty Carver in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.

Gayle in the ensemble drama Casa de los babys.

A very funny Nancy Huff or Will Ferell’s mom in Step Brothers.

And last but not least, my favorite role as herself alongside her husband on Curb your Enthusiasm.

Brittany Murphy died early this morning after she went into full cardiac arrest and could not be revived, multiple sources tell TMZ. She was 32. A 911 call was made at 8:00 AM from a home in Los Angeles that is listed as belonging to her husband, Simon Monjack, the Los Angeles City Fire Department tells TMZ. We’re told Murphy was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Murphy starred in such films as “Clueless,” “8 Mile,” and “Don’t Say a Word.” Story developing .
